Top Tech Events For Feb 2021

Let’s face it: Events fell off a cliff in 2020. And webinar + virtual events fatigue became a real thing! So we’re stoked to see in-person events slowly starting to trickle back in. Complimented by an ever growing selection of virtual options too.

Here are some of the events we won’t be missing out on this month, and recommend you don’t either:

In-person event: Sydney, How Do We Address the Seed Funding Gap? - Wednesday 17th February, 8am Martin Place, Sydney

Despite reports that “startup investment in Australia hit new highs over the first six months of 2020, reaching US$944.7 million, up from US$627.3 million in H1 2019,” angel and seed investment in Australia has fallen, both in terms of the number of deals and the aggregate value of early-stage investments, compared to later-stage venture capital.

Jackie Vullinghs (Airtree Ventures), Alex McCauly (StartupAUS) and Grant McCarthy (Tidal Ventures) are joining the team from Innovation Bay in discussion about how this gap in seed funding has developed and what steps need to be taken to jump start a fresh wave of funding for early-stage startups in Australia.

Virtual MeetUp: Career Pathways and Promotions - Thursday 18th February, 6pm-8pm

Last year Peter Diamandis (the dude that co-founded Singularity University) famously predicted that we’ll “reinvent every industry in the next 10 years” and that “the future is faster than we think…”  We’ve seen a glimpse of the impact and rate of digital transformation as a result of Covid-19, but the question is: where to from here when it comes to your career (and a future we can’t even fully envision yet)?

THAT’s why we’ll be jumping online for this virtual MeetUp on Thursday, 18th February.  Michelle Gleeson (Director of Engineering at A Cloud Guru), Hannah Field (Principal at Tempus) and Matt Allen (CEO at Tractor Ventures) will be sharing how they navigated rewarding and successful careers - and are ready to share lessons learnt.

Virtual Conference: DeveloperWeek - Wednesday 17th - Friday 19th February

Uniting the global developer community for 3 days of learning, best practices & networking, DeveloperWeek is hosting the world's largest virtual developer conference with 10,000+ engineers, software architects, developers, managers & leaders, and IT & technical executives from 90+ countries.

With the likes of Twilio’s Jeff Lawson, Microsoft’s Emily Freeman, IBM’s Soumitra Limaye and Goldman Sach’s Mariya Breyter as keynotes, we’d have serious FOMO if we missed this one!
